So you're planning a big trip, you've made all the necessary arrangements and flights have been booked. Congratulations!
You are prepared and are in anticipation of arrival to a new environment. Well done.
Are you mentally prepared for the cultural change, the new people you will encounter and the requirements you have during that trip?
Money of course is essential, a different currency perhaps, but that's not all it means to travel. Where you come from makes a large impact on those around you during your stay.
Remember you are not from that place, the people around you may or may not be local or friendly. The expectation is upon you to make an impression, to talk and to interact with the locals.
How you will approach the people is detriment to your happiness in your present environment. Treating people as though what they do doesn't matter, is NOT a good idea.
Remember to smile, say hello, meet and greet. Talk to people with the understanding that you are not from there and acknowledge your agreements.
Shaking hands is NOT always appropriate, research that culture and their norms.
